Why Go Here

The sea caves of Pegeia form a protected coastal and marine landscape north-west of Paphos. The caves are significant habitat for the rare Mediterranean monk seal, which uses sheltered places to rest and breed. That conservation importance is a reason to appreciate the coast without entering caves or approaching animals. The attraction is the relationship between sea, rock and the hidden spaces in the shoreline, rather than a guaranteed opportunity to see seals. Protected-area restrictions cover activities in the water and change according to the relevant zone. Enjoy the landscape from an appropriate permitted viewpoint and check current local guidance before planning boating, swimming or diving. Avoid disturbing the cave entrances.
