Why Go Here

Petra tou Romiou National Forest Park protects about 350 hectares of coastal hills and valleys around one of Cyprus’s best-known seascapes. Offshore limestone blocks form the landmark traditionally associated with Aphrodite’s birth, while the wider park reveals a more varied landscape than the famous rock alone. Different kinds of stone resist erosion in different ways, creating rounded hills, steep-sided valleys and changing coastal forms. The myths add cultural interest, but the geology and open sea views are attractions in their own right. Allow time to look inland as well as towards the rocks, and treat the park as a wider landscape rather than only a photograph stop. Follow local access signs and keep clear of exposed shore edges.
