Levens Hall near Kendal is particularly known for its historic topiary garden, founded in 1694 by Guillaume Beaumont for Colonel James Grahme. Clipped trees form geometric, abstract and character shapes, with some of the garden’s original structure surviving across more than three centuries. Other areas include a rose garden, orchard, willow labyrinth and the Fountain Garden created for the garden’s tercentenary. The Elizabethan house can be visited separately from the gardens.
