About DUNSTER CASTLE
Dunster’s terraced gardens spread partly over the medieval castle defences, with their layout dating from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Around them, an eighteenth-century landscape park replaced the medieval park with advice from Richard Phelps. The red-sandstone castle stands above the Avill estuary on a terrace along the eastern side of the Tor. The wider landscape includes Conygar Wood, where woodland walks give views across Dunster towards the castle and park, as well as out towards the coast.
