About Ritson's Force

Ritson’s Force is a set of waterfalls on Mosedale Beck near Wasdale Head. A footpath from the Wasdale Head Inn reaches the falls, making them an attractive river-side outing within one of the Lake District’s most dramatic mountain valleys. The surrounding landscape includes the great fells of Scafell, Scafell Pike and Great Gable, but visiting the waterfall need not mean attempting one of those summits. Come for the smaller-scale movement of the beck against that large mountain backdrop. The path and rocks can be slippery, so wear suitable footwear and remain clear of the water’s edge. If continuing farther into Mosedale, plan the longer walk separately.
