About Lodore Falls

Lodore Falls tumble down a steep, rocky cascade near the southern end of Derwentwater. Water comes from Watendlath Tarn and descends more than 30 metres into Borrowdale, with broken rock giving the fall a layered shape. Heavy rain can create a vigorous torrent, while a long dry spell may reduce it to a trickle. The waterfall has a long history of attracting visitors, artists and writers, and the adjoining hotel takes its name from the scene. Come to enjoy a small part of Borrowdale’s water landscape alongside a visit to the lake. Check current visitor access and keep to a safe approach rather than climbing over the wet boulders.
