Why Go Here

Agios Agapetikos is a small rock-cut cave associated with local religious tradition near Fabrica Hill in Paphos. The saint is regarded as a patron of lovers, and the chamber forms part of a landscape where quarrying, archaeology and places of worship sit close together. Fabrica Hill itself contains artificial underground chambers cut to obtain building stone, as well as remains from several periods of the town’s history. The interest of Agios Agapetikos is more intimate: a modest cave and the beliefs attached to it, within an area well suited to exploring Paphos on foot. Take time to distinguish the individual chambers and chapels rather than treating all the caves around the hill as a single monument.
