About Heddon Valley to Woody Bay
The combination of oak woodland, waterfall country, Roman archaeology and cliff walking gives it a proper day-hike identity. Distance: 6 miles (9.6 km). Typical route time: about 2.5–3 hours. Difficulty/terrain: Challenging; long incline, undulating cliff path, steep and muddy sections. Hollow Brook can be wet and awkward after heavy rain. Exposed cliff sections require care in strong wind. Start at the National Trust gift shop in Heddon Valley, SS655480. Use Heddon Valley parking and check current National Trust parking terms. No separate trail fee; start parking may charge. Wet ground can be slippery. Exposed sections are serious in poor weather.
