About High Willhays & Yes Tor Circular
A high-moor circuit from the Meldon side to Yes Tor and High Willhays, with broad views and demanding navigation in poor weather. Distance: 8.65 miles (13.9 km). Difficulty/terrain: Open high-moor route; no formal grade is supplied in the cited walk guide. Navigation can be difficult in mist. Elevation/ascent: High Willhays is about 621 m; Yes Tor about 619 m. On 17 September 2026 the MOD six-week notice listed no firing on the Okehampton range, but schedules can change at short notice. Never enter a live range when red flags or red lamps are displayed; on-site warning signals override current schedules. Start at the Meldon-side parking area identified by grid reference SX56154 91787. Use the signed/available parking at the route start and do not block access. Check current access, parking and any transport or managed-site charges before travelling. Check the MOD firing notice and warning flags before committing to the route. Carry map/navigation and prepare for fast-changing moorland weather.
