About Lydford Gorge Waterfall Trail

This is the current publishable waterfall walk at Lydford, kept separate from the obsolete full-gorge river circuit. It delivers the waterfall, temperate rainforest feel and steep-sided gorge without inventing access through the permanently closed river-path section. Distance: about 1.75 miles (2.8 km). Typical route time: about 1 hour. Difficulty/terrain: Moderate; steep, uneven and often slippery gorge terrain. On 17 September 2026 the Waterfall Trail was listed open 10:00–16:30 and the Waterfall car park 10:00–dusk. From 2 November 2026 the Waterfall Trail remains the principal winter walk, but facilities including toilets close until spring 2027. High winds or flooding can trigger safety closures; check on the day. The former river path between Whitelady Waterfall and Pixie Glen is closed and must not be treated as part of this route. Start from the Waterfall entrance/car park at Lydford Gorge, near Tavistock. Managed National Trust site: use the Waterfall car park and check opening/admission information before setting out. National Trust members have free entry; non-member admission applies. Check current admission prices before travelling. Surfaces are steep and slippery even in dry weather. Check same-day opening because flooding and high winds can close the gorge.
